The Ramsey Tower Renamed “APCO Tower”

Ramsey Tower Renamed APCO Tower - Anderson-Prichard Oil Corporation Headquarters

On January 1, 1943, one of Oklahoma’s tallest skyscrapers, the Ramsey Tower, was renamed the “APCO Tower”, which was an acronym of the Anderson-Prichard Oil Corporation. Anderson-Prichard Oil had moved from its original headquarters in the Colcord Building, to the tower, and it became the company’s new home.

The announcement was made in a full-page sponsored ad in the Oklahoma City Times newspaper as follows:

“1943 BRINGS A NEW NAME – The Ramsey Tower Now Becomes APCO TOWER”

“A new name identifies one of Oklahoma City’s towering skyscrapers as the familiar Ramsey Tower, corner of First and Robinson, becomes the APCO Tower. This new name brings with it a continuance of the superb appointments of this modern office building… an expansion of the type of service to which its tenants have become accustomed. The directory of Ramsey Tower has always read like a Who’s Who of the city’s business. As APCO Tower, these tenants will continue to have an address of distinction… The new owners of APCO Tower, men whose successful business careers have paralleled the growth of Oklahoma City, welcome the opportunity now afforded of serving so intimately the business and professional life of this community.”
